 started up its Elastollan thermoplastic A polymer material that turns to liquid when heated and becomes solid when cooled. There are more than 40 types of thermoplastics, including acrylic, polypropylene, polycarbonate and polyethylene.  polyurethane plant in Wyandotte, MI. The plant, with its 15 million lbs./yr. capacity, is part of BASF's strategic plan to put TPU TPU - Text Processing Utility  production units in the major markets its serves worldwide. In 1990, BASF completed a major expansion of its Elastollan plant at Lemfoerde, Germany, and through its joint venture, Takeda Badische, brought on stream a complementary plant at Yokkaichi, Japan. The Wyandotte plant uses the same manufacturing technology used in the plants in Germany and Japan. The Wyandotte Elastollan plant makes both polyester- and polyether-based TPU resins for injection molding injection molding
