BASF to modify plastics with cellulose.

 Corp., Florham Park, N.J., is licensing several patents from the University of Alabama The University of Alabama (also known as Alabama, UA or colloquially as 'Bama) is a public coeducational university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. Founded in 1831, UA is the flagship campus of the University of Alabama System. , Tuscaloosa, that cover the use of ionic liquids to dissolve and process cellulose from plants. The new technology is believed to hold great promise for the use of cellulose as a chemical feedstock for modifying plastics and fibers. Ionic liquids are said to be attractive as solvents because they are not flammable flam·ma·ble
