The new technology is believed to hold great promise for the use of cellulose as a chemical feedstock for modifying plastics and fibers. Ionic liquids are said to be attractive as solvents because they are not flammable flam·ma·ble adj. Easily ignited and capable of burning rapidly; inflammable.
