BASF patents aqueous coating.

Patent No. U.S. 7,297,375 B2

BASF Coatings AG has obtained an aqueous coating material curable physically, thermally and with actinic radiation comprised of at least one stabilized polyurethane, as binder at least one effect pigment or a mixture of a color pigment and an effect pigment, and at least one transparent or colorless powder present in an amount of 0.09-5.0% by weight. Based on the solids content of the coating material, the powder is substantially inert with respect to the other constituents of the coating material and whose particles have an average particle size of from 3.0-7.5 [micro]m, a particle size distribution such that the maximum particle size is below 10 [micro]m, and a density of from 0.8 to 3.6 g [cm.sup.-3], wherein the at least one stabilized polyurethane, the at least one effect pigment, and the at least one transparent or colorless powder are present in a combination such that a coating prepared from the aqueous coating material provides a cloud free metallic effect.
