BASF at Seal Sands: The milestones.1967: The site was developed on reclaimed land at the Tees estuary. 1969: Acrylonitrile acrylonitrile /ac·ry·lo·ni·trile/ (ak?ri-lo-ni´tril) a colorless halogenated hydrocarbon used in the making of plastics and as a pesticide; its vapors are irritant to the respiratory tract and eyes, may cause systemic poisoning, and are plant was commissioned. 1978: A replacement acrylonitrile plant was commissioned, which had a greater capacity. 1978: Nylon Intermediates plant was commissioned. 1985: BASF BASF Bar Association of San Francisco (since 1872; San Francisco, California) BASF Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (German chemical products company) BASF Builders Association of South Florida bought the site. 1997: Joint venture with National Power, now npower Cogen, saw the Cogeneration plant commissioned, which generates the site's electricity and steam. 1999/2002: Further joint ventures with Inoes and Lucite International saw plants built on the site for Acetonitrile acetonitrile /ac·e·to·ni·trile/ (as?e-to-ni´tril) a colorless liquid with an etherlike odor used as an extractant, solvent, and intermediate; ingestion or inhalation yields cyanide as a metabolic product. and Acetone Cyanohydrin which uses BASF by products as raw materials for further production. 2003: Absorber vent treatment commissioned. 2006: BASF celebrates its 21st anniversary. |
