, a construction project intended to demonstrate the viability of energy-efficient, affordable and environmentally-compatible home building.

A panel of distinguished judges selected the project based on sustainable material usage, energy and carbon reduction, site usage and technical merit.

BASF products that ensure the home's energy peformance include: expandable polystyrene insulating wall systems for energy efficiency and durability, polyurethane foam sealants that create outstanding air and moisture barriers, cool metal roof coatings that reduce solar heat gain, and low VOC (Vertical Online Community) See vertical portal.  sealants and adhesives that improve indoor air quality Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) deals with the content of interior air that could affect health and comfort of building occupants. The IAQ may be compromised by microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), chemicals (such as carbon monoxide, radon), allergens, or any mass or energy stressor , to name a few.

The BASF Near-Zero Energy Home is 60% more energy efficient than the average home, and with the integration of solar energy panels produces energy for home use and supply to the grid.

The home was certified by the Institute for Business and Home Safety as the first in Jersey to receive the Fortified fortified (fôrt´fīd),
adj containing additives more potent than the principal ingredient.
