BASF Near-Zero Energy Home wins design excellence award.

BASF, the Chemical Company, is the recipient of the 2007 Excellence in Design Award from Environmental Design and Construction Magazine for the BASF Near-Zero Energy Home in Paterson, New Jersey, a construction project intended to demonstrate the viability of energy-efficient, affordable and environmentally-compatible home building.

A panel of distinguished judges selected the project based on sustainable material usage, energy and carbon reduction, site usage and technical merit.

BASF products that ensure the home's energy peformance include: expandable polystyrene insulating wall systems for energy efficiency and durability, polyurethane foam sealants that create outstanding air and moisture barriers, cool metal roof coatings that reduce solar heat gain, and low VOC sealants and adhesives that improve indoor air quality, to name a few.

The BASF Near-Zero Energy Home is 60% more energy efficient than the average home, and with the integration of solar energy panels produces energy for home use and supply to the grid.

The home was certified by the Institute for Business and Home Safety as the first in Jersey to receive the Fortified ... for Safer Living[R] certification, making it one of the most durable homes in the state.
