Call it the sentimental semifinal.

The only person as hungry as Chatsworth High School baseball coach Tom Meusborn for a City championship is Poly's Chuck Schwal.

Check this out. No Valley Pac-8 Conference team has advanced to the City Section semifinals since Poly in 1992, Jerry Cord's final season as coach. The Parrots went on to beat Chatsworth in that game before losing the City title game to San Pedro.

Chatsworth lost the next two City title games, while Poly for the past three seasons has been marred with bad luck, disappointing performances and a phantom catch that kept it from the semifinals.

The two programs, waiting to break through for that long-awaited title, meet today at Pierce College In 2006 the Library won a national Excellence award. Academics
Pierce College offers associate's degrees, mainly in the arts and sciences. There are also certificate programs in early childhood education, social services, dental hygienist, and others.
