Ventura County's Mr. Baseball is expanding his horizons to professional boxing.

Beginning Jan. 29, Pacific Suns owner Don DiCarlo and local boxing promoter Robert Valdez will hold monthly fight cards at the Derby Club at Seaside Park, formerly the Ventura County Fairgrounds n. pl. 1. same as fairground. .

Billed as the ``Battle by the Sea,'' the main event on the opening date will be a bout between junior lightweights Eddie Contreras of Santa Paula and Mike Dallas of Bakersfield for the state title.

Nick Martinez of Whittier will square off in a middleweight bout against Los Angeles' Julian Samaha, who is one of 15 fighters handled by actor Pat Morita (``The Karate Kid,'' ``Happy Days.'')

Oxnard's Carlos Madrigal madrigal, name for two different forms of Italian music, one related to the poetic madrigal in the 14th cent., the other the most common form of secular vocal music in the 16th cent.  will fight an opponent to be announced To be announced (TBA)

Port Hueneme's Ramon Villanueva will square off against Antonio Desantiago in a lightweight bout.

And Oxnard's Israel Beltran will do battle with Leon Norfleet in a junior lightweight fight.

Tickets are $45 for ringside seats, $30 to $35 for preferred seating and $20 for general admission.
