BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: TOUGH SCHEDULE PREPARES LANCASTER.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Lancaster High finished the first round of Golden League baseball play in second place with just one loss. A day later, the Eagles' overall record dropped below .500.

Lancaster - which was 5-6 heading into an Arcadia tournament game Monday - filled its nonleague schedule with tough competition that doesn't make for a pretty record, but is providing experience to which the Eagles credit their league success.

Lancaster began the season at the Easton Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Showdown, losing to teams such as two-time defending national champion Chatsworth and Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. We need to see how good teams play. Seeing a team like Chatsworth and what they do to win 54 games in a row, it was good for us. We probably could have played in some other tournament and come out with a better record, but I wanted to face these type of teams. We were definitely better off for the experience.''

Lancaster started the season 1-4, being outscored 45-8 in the four losses. After Friday's 4-1 victory over Highland, the Eagles are 4-1 in league.

--Familiar foes: Lancaster and Quartz quartz, one of the commonest of all rock-forming minerals and one of the most important constituents of the earth's crust. Chemically, it is silicon dioxide, SiO2.  Hill will drive a lot farther today than they usually do for games against each other. The Golden League rivals have a 10 a.m. game in Arcadia as part of the Arcadia tournament.

Lancaster defeated the Rebels 4-2 in a league game March 26.

Highland is the third Golden League member in the eight-team Arcadia tournament, but isn't scheduled to face Lancaster.

--Take a break: Palmdale is not participating in a spring break tournament. The Falcons' only game this week while Golden League play is on hold is Thursday at home against Paraclete.

Palmdale's break is well-deserved. The Falcons (8-2, 5-0) are in first place and undefeated in league. Palmdale completed the first round of league play Friday with a 3-1 victory over three-time defending champion defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título
