BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: NOW, ORTIZES WANT A TITLE.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Division II baseball teams should be warned that Art and Tony Ortiz Tony Ortiz is a sports reporter for WXYT radio in Detroit, MI.

In 1986, Ortiz began his radio career as an intern at WXYT. After gaining a paid position with the station, he worked as a producer for Michigan State basketball and football.
are used to getting what they want. What the Ortiz cousins want now is a Southern Section championship for the Lancaster High baseball team.

The Eagles learned early how far the pair would go to get their way. When the team voted on what type of spikes the team would wear, the Ortizes wanted one brand of shoes and the rest of the team voted for another. Art and Tony would not be swayed.

The duo showed up for a team meeting the next day wearing dress shirts and shorts as well as carrying briefcases. They went on to give a presentation on why the team should wear their brand of shoes. Lancaster ended up with them.

``As soon as they saw us, they started laughing,'' Art said. ``But they realized how serious we are about what we want.''

Their performance on the field shows they are just as serious about winning baseball games.

--Segal set to soar: Justin Segal provided good news for a Calabasas team in need of a positive note. Segal has been cleared to pitch Friday when the Coyotes open the Division III playoffs at home against Orange League champion Savanna savanna or savannah (both: səvăn`ə), tropical or subtropical grassland lying on the margin of the trade wind belts. .

Segal (6-2) was removed from last Thursday's loss to Chaminade of West Hills after being hit on the foot by a line drive. Severe swelling made it difficult for him to walk after the game and X-rays revealed a small chip in one of the foot's bones, but Segal is now able to pitch and run the bases.

``It hurt a lot when it happened,'' the junior right-hander said. ``But I'm doing good now.''

Segal could provide a welcome boost to Calabasas, which is coming off three consecutive losses.
