BASEBALL GAME TO AID CHARITY FUNDING EFFORTS.

PALMDALE -- United Desert Charities is sponsoring a ``Support Our Local Charities'' event at the July 9 Lancaster JetHawks The Lancaster JetHawks are a minor league baseball team in Lancaster, California, USA. United Desert Charities Executive Director Richelle Olson said the event is intended to raise awareness of the urgent financial needs of various charities, particularly for local organizations.

``It is very important to draw attention to how much we all need to give to our local community and to keep charitable dollars here in the A.V.,'' Olson said.

Local charities have been affected because of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina that have drawn off contributions that might have been given locally, and also because many younger residents aren't regular contributors to charities, she said.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. July 9 at Clear Channel Stadium, on Avenue I at the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. . The JetHawks will play the Inland Empire 66ers.

The event will feature prize drawings, a silent auction, a salute to military personnel and a pre-game show featuring local youth groups.

Prizes for the event include free trips, gift certificates and an autographed picture of former Los Angeles Dodger Brett Butler.
