Sophomores to watch: Coaches are raving about St. Francis sophomore catcher Jim Hemming, who stands 6-2 and possesses a powerful arm. He started at defensive end for the Knights' football team, but baseball is the sport in which he could become a big-time player. ``He's pretty good,'' coach Bob Evans said.

Largely unnoticed last week was the impressive debut of Kennedy sophomore left-hander Tim Arroyo, who was brought up from the JV team. In 3-1/3 innings of relief pitching against Vista from San Diego, Arroyo allowed no runs and just two hits, walked none and struck out six. He showed poise and excellent ball movement on his pitches. He figures to replace All-City pitcher Derek Morse in Kennedy's rotation next season.
