BASEBALL; A TEAM FOR ALL SEASONS.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Staff Writer

ROSAMOND - If Rosamond High can do it on the football field and the basketball court, then why not the baseball diamond?

The Roadrunners have already won High Desert League championships in both football and boys' basketball. Both teams advanced to the Southern Section semifinals.

There were several players who participated in both sports. And many of those are also on the Rosamond baseball team, which hopes to continue the school's winning ways this season.

``A lot of these guys are part of winning programs,'' Roadrunners coach Johnny Johnson Johnny Johnson is the name of:

  • Johnny Johnson (musician), headliner of Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon
  • Johnny Johnson (MLB pitcher), a major league pitcher
said. ``That's a good advantage for us.''

The Roadrunners are coming off a successful baseball season. They were second in the HDL (Hardware Description Language) A language used to describe the functions of an electronic circuit for documentation, simulation or logic synthesis (or all three). Although many proprietary HDLs have been developed, Verilog and VHDL are the major standards.  and 14-8 overall. But Rosamond was humbled in the second round of the Southern Section Division V playoffs, losing 17-0 at Downey Calvary Chapel Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational, Protestant fellowship of churches which began in 1965 in Southern California. The term "fellowship of churches" is used in contrast to a denomination. .

The Roadrunners will use that loss as incentive for the 2000 season.

``We were pretty intimidated by Calvary Chapel. They realized pretty fast that they couldn't walk on water,'' Johnson said.

Rosamond lost four of its first five games, but the Roadrunners have the ingredients to make a run at the High Desert title along with Bishop, Mojave and Kern Valley.

``He can do just about anything. One of the best this school's ever had,'' said Johnny Johnson, a Rosamond graduate.

Junior Kevin Kees forms a solid pitching combination with Johnson, designated hitter J.R. Johnson (no relation to Luke or Johnny) and senior first baseman Joe Miranda give the Roadrunners' lineup some pop.
