BASEBALL: LOCAL ALL-STARS: NO REST FOR DODGERS, ANGELS STARS.

Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - Shawn Green Shawn David Green (born November 10, 1972, in Des Plaines, Illinois) is a 6' 4" left-handed Major League Baseball player. Green is the starting right fielder for the New York Mets.[1]

Green was a 1st round draft pick, and has been a two-time major league All-Star.

Not that anyone would have blamed him. Definitely not after his sluggish six weeks to start the season. Green's batting average batting average

Closer Eric Gagne and starter Odalis Perez join Green for the biggest Dodgers representation on the All-Star roster since they had five in 1995.

``For me, I thought for sure after the first six weeks of the season that I'd have three days off,'' Green said. ``I'm excited. It will be a big thrill to go and represent the Dodgers.''

Oakland pitcher Barry Zito, who went to Pierce College and USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. , and Detroit outfielder Robert Fick, a Newbury Park High and Cal State Northridge product, made the All-Star team.

The All-Star Game is July 9 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, otherwise known as Green's playground. He hit a record-tying four home runs and was 6 for 6 at Milwaukee on May 23.

Gagne, a converted closer, and Perez are first-time selections. Gagne has converted 29 of 30 save opportunities and Perez has won nine games.

Perez, Gagne and Green all seemed locks for the team. But three other Dodgers - catcher Paul Lo Duca Paul Anthony Lo Duca (born April 12, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York) is a catcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the New York Mets. Previously, Lo Duca played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2004) and Florida Marlins (2004-2005). , first baseman Eric Karros and starter Kazuhisa Ishii were on the bubble.

Ishii started the season 10-1 and is now 11-4 with a 3.52 ERA but wasn't a selection. Dodgers pitching coach Jim Colborn was disappointed Ishii was shut out but called it a ``silver lining,'' saying Ishii could use the rest.

Brenly named six Diamondbacks, including three pitchers, to the team.

``I guess it's expected and they have the right to service their own team and pump up their own players,'' Colborn said. ``He won the World Series and they have the right to name players on their team. When in doubt, I'd probably do the same thing.

Lo Duca was batting .315 before Sunday and Karros .302.

Perez, who was the unknown in the Gary Sheffield trade, has been the Dodgers' best starter. Before Sunday, he was 9-3 with a 2.33 ERA and had won five of his past six starts. He took the loss Sunday.

``I feel blessed,'' Perez said. ``I've been working a lot and I've been working hard. Making the All-Star Game is just great.''
