BASE SHIFTS SUPPORT JOB NEVADA FIRM HIRED; EDWARDS STAFF WILL STAY.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - A Las Vegas-based defense industry partnership will take over a wide range of Edwards Air Force Base support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  formerly handled by Computer Sciences Corp.

Most of CSC's 1,000 Edwards Air Force Base employees will transfer to Joint Test, Tactics and Training, which was awarded a contract potentially worth $1.7 billion over 15 years at four Navy and Air Force bases.

``All the parties concerned have promised a smooth transition. We have no reason to believe the transition will not be smooth,'' said Edwards spokesman John Haire.

Starting next week, Joint Test, Tactics and Training - also known as JT3 - will begin a transition period that will last until Oct. 1, when the federal fiscal year 2002 begins. The contract is for fiscal year 2002.

(JT3) ``basically gets up to speed on what CSC has been doing,'' Haire said.

Most CSC employees at Edwards, as well as workers at other bases, will be hired at the same compensation they have been getting, JT3 President Pete Winters said.

``The vast majority of them will be the employees of JT3 or one of our subcontractors,'' Winters said. ``You'll see some changes in management. They'll be some efficiencies.''

JT3 is a limited liability corporation formed by EG&G Technical Services and Raytheon Technical Services Co.

EG&G operates military ranges and facilities in New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. At its northwestern corner are the so-called Four Corners, where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet at right angles; New Mexico is also bordered by Oklahoma (NE), Texas (E, S), and Mexico (S).  and Arizona and has base operations support contracts in Texas and Alabama. Raytheon provides technical, scientific and professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  for the military, other arms of the federal government and private companies.

JT3 was created to compete for a new Department of Defense contract merging engineering and technical support management of Air Force and Navy test and training installations in three states.

The new Joint Range Technical Services program covers Edwards' Air Force Flight Test Center, the Nevada Test and Training Range The Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) is a training facility of the United States Air Force located in the desert of southern Nevada in the United States. It is the largest of its kind in the US, 4687 sq. mi. , the Utah Test and Training Range Coordinates:

JT3's major subcontractors include Arcata Associates of Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. The contract award is a cost-plus award fee/term arrangement. The contract award for the first year is $96.7 million, with more than $25 million of that designated to go to small businesses, the Air Force said.

Under the contract, JT3 will provide operations and maintenance, engineering and technical services for threats, instrumentation, communications and data system.

JT3 will also provide hardware and software support; modeling, simulation and training; equipment modifications; information technology; test planning; scheduling and execution; and data collection, reduction and analysis.
