BART to Provide Extra Trains for the Gay Pride Day Parade.

OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2001

This Sunday (June 24), in addition to providing longer trains, BART will add seven direct service trains for the Gay Pride Day Parade in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden . Two direct service trains will be provided on the Concord line Concord Line refers to the following transit lines:
  • Pittsburg/Bay Point - Daly City Line (rapid transit)
  • Concord Line (Staten Island) (bus, formerly streetcar)
 at 9:40 a.m. and 10 a.m. For the Richmond line Richmond Line refers to the following transit lines:
  • Richmond - Daly City Line (rapid transit)
  • Richmond Line (Staten Island) (bus, formerly streetcar)
, five direct service trains will be provided at 8:46 a.m., 9:06 a.m., 9:26 a.m., 9:46 a.m. and 10:06 a.m. Passengers traveling on the Richmond line after 10:06 a.m. should transfer at the MacArthur Station for a San Francisco bound train.

Those traveling from Fremont should transfer at the Bay Fair Station to a San Francisco bound train. After the event, additional trains will be kept on standby to help handle the crowds.

Beginning at 9 a.m., BART personnel will be selling tickets from tables at the Fremont, Colma and Dublin/Pleasanton BART Stations as a special convenience for expected crowds. After the parade, personnel will be selling tickets from tables at the Civic Center and Powell Street Stations Powell Street Station is a Muni Metro and Bay Area Rapid Transit station near the intersection of Market Street and Powell Street in downtown San Francisco, California. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Market and Beale Streets Beale Street is a street in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee which runs from the Mississippi River to East Street, a distance of approximately 1.8 miles. It is a significant location in African-American history and the history of the blues.  and continues toward Civic Center ending at Market and 8th Streets just above the Civic Center BART Station. The celebration will take place at Civic Center from noon until 7 p.m., and will feature live entertainment, dancing, food and crafts.

The platform and street elevators at the Civic Center BART Station are out-of-service due to overhauling that began on March 5. BART is working with local bus operators so that they can assist people who use the elevators to reach adjacent BART stations. Most local transit services in the Bay Area are accessible and BART's Transit Information Center will assist customers in trip planning by calling 510/465-BART or the toll-free number listed in local telephone directories.
