BART To Hold Public Hearings On Next Year's Operating Budget.

BART's preliminary operating budget for fiscal year 1997 shows a $3 million deficit. In addition to the basic current system service, the proposed budget for next year will fund systemwide renovation, service expansion, safety and security, and expanded paratransit Paratransit is an alternative mode of flexible passenger transportation that does not follow fixed routes or schedules. Typically vans or mini-buses are used to provide paratransit service, but also share taxis and jitneys are important providers.  service.
