BART Announces Public Invited to Attend a Birthday Tribute to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.News Editors OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2004 On Monday (January 12) BART will hold a public celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday from 12 noon to 1 p.m., in the MetroCenter Auditorium, 101 Eighth Street, Oakland, across the street from BART Headquarters and the Lake Merritt For the BART station, see . Lake Merritt is a large tidal lagoon that lies just east of downtown Oakland, California. It is surrounded by parkland and city neighborhoods. A popular 3.5 mile (~5.6 km) walking and jogging path runs along its perimeter. BART Station. Keynote speaker for the event will be Jonathan Eubanks, Documentary and Fine Art Photographer. Mr. Eubanks will present a slideshow of Dr. King and the Oakland area during the civil rights movement. A native of Oakland and a graduate of local schools and colleges, he is currently producing a photo-documentation of artists for the City of Oakland in their Traditional Arts Program.
