BARRACKED OBAMA; 'You lie' jibe during healthcare speech.

BARACK Obama was sensationally accused of lying as he spoke to Congress yesterday.

The President had just said his Democrats would not offer free healthcare to illegal immigrants.

Republican Congressman Addison Graves Wilson Sr then breached the hallowed decorum of a Presidential address with two little words.

"You lie" he barked at a shocked Obama. The outburst enraged Democrats and upset fellow Republicans, too. One said it was "pukeworthy" and John McCain, Obama's rival for President, went on TV to demand he say sorry at once.

But the 62-year-old congressman for South Carolina was in no hurry.

After Obama's address on healthcare reform to the joint session of Congress he dashed for the door.

Within an hour his website was out of order, a message claiming it was "Down for maintenance".

But eventually he stepped back into the limelight to say he was, after all, very, very sorry. He had wanted to apologise in person but had to make his amends to Obama's chief of staff instead. In a statement he said: "I let my emotions get the best of me. I disagree with the President's statement but my comments were inappropriate and regrettable."

The outburst didn't do him much good back home in South Carolina.

His Democrat opponent enjoyed an instant windfall as voters poured pounds 30,000 into campaign funds.
