BARNES & NOBLE, INC. APPOINTS TWO NEW DIRECTORS

 NEW YORK, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the nation's largest operator of book superstores and second largest operator of mall bookstores, announced today the appointment of two independent directors to its board: William Dillard, II, 48, and William Sheluck, Jr., 53.
 Dillard is the president and chief operating officer of Dillard Department Stores, Inc., a position he has held since 1977. A director of Dillard Department Stores, Inc. since 1968, Dillard is also a director of MSA Realty Inc. and Texas Commerce Bancshares, Inc.
 Sheluck was the president, chief executive officer and a director of Nationar, a New York State-chartered commercial bank providing services to financial institutions and corporations, from 1983 until his retirement on April 30, 1993.
 In October 1993, Barnes & Noble completed an initial public offering of 9,470,250 shares of its common stock at $20.00 per share. The offering was made through an underwriting group led by Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated and co-managed by Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation and PaineWebber Incorporated.
 Barnes & Noble operates a total of 963 stores in 48 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, including 198 superstores under its Barnes & Noble, Bookstop and Bookstar tradenames, 694 B. Dalton Bookseller stores, 36 Doubleday Book Shops and 12 Scribner's Bookstores.
