Mastercraft Door & Window manufactures its own lines and also supplies the best in brand-name doors and windows. On an apples-to-apples price comparison, Mastercraft will meet or beat any legitimate estimate. Entry doors made of solid oak in a choice of two leaded-glass designs run $630 ($700 and up retail) and there are always floor samples priced to move. On the day or our visit, a door in solid oak with a stained glass window was $900, instead of the regular price of $1,500.

In addition to standard doors and windows, Mastercraft also carries the latest innovations. For example, you can get regular French doors with framed panes, or French doors with U-channeled panes that give the look of individual window panes without blocking the view. A basic double-door unit and frame runs about $1,200 plus installation.

When Mastercraft gives you a quote on installation, it includes everything: delivery, installation, frame, hardware and disposal of the old materials.

Another new product we liked was the disappearing screen door. Rather than a screen blocking your view, the screen rolls into the frame when not in use. Approximate prices, including installation, run $260 for a single door or $525 for a double.

At the end of February, Mastercraft is opening a cash-and-carry outlet store at its Chatsworth location, where doors will be priced at 40 percent to 60 percent below retail.
