With so many stores struggling to survive, consumers are often met with high-pressure sales techniques instead of genuine service. But there are still places that offer friendly, pressure-free service, and one of them is Furniture Trends in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. .

Furniture Trends offers furnishings at prices usually lower than ``sale'' prices at large furniture chains. For example, a traditional cocktail table in a mahogany mahogany, common name for the Meliaceae, a widely distributed family of chiefly tropical shrubs and trees, often having scented wood. The valuable hardwood called mahogany is obtained from many members of the family; in America and Europe it is imported for  finish runs $129 ``on sale'' at a large chain. The everyday price here is $99.

Family owned and operated by three generations, Furniture Trends offers first-quality merchandise from many of the manufacturers used by medium-priced furniture stores. Most goods come from local factories that offer real delivery dates on special orders.

A 42-inch-wide upholstered chair with three pillows is $499, plus $199 for a matching ottoman. Similar sets in standard sizes usually start at $850 retail.
