BARGAINS : GIANT STORE, SMALL PRICES FOR THE BIRDS.

Byline: Trisha King & Deborah Newmark

There's nothing like shopping in a place where the proprietor and staff genuinely understand the merchandise. Unlike so many places that seem to be interested only in your money, you'll find knowledgeable bird lovers at Discount Bird, Reptile reptile, name for the dry-skinned, usually scaly, cold-blooded vertebrates (see Chordata) of the order Reptilia. Reptiles are found in a variety of habitats throughout the warm and temperate regions (except on some islands), with the greatest variety in the tropics.  & Pet Supplies.

This enormous store - 7,500 square feet of mostly birds and related supplies - is a paradise for birds and their pet humans. For example, instead of a shelf or two of bird food, there are two long aisles filled with nuts, grains, seeds, dried fruit and mixes for all types of birds.

Discounts range from 10 percent to 50 percent below retail. The deepest discounts are on large wrought-iron cages available in four colors (forest green, black, white and platinum). Prices on wrought-iron cages start at $350 ($650 to $750 retail) for one 24 by 32 by 58 inches in size.

From the Jungle Room (a special exercise area with stands and toys for larger birds such as parrots) to the nursery, it's quite apparent that owner John Tesoriero is devoted to winged creatures. His knowledge of birds, especially finches and canaries, is amazing a·maze

There is also an unbelievable selection of bird toys. Most of the back wall is filled with bright toys in all shapes and sizes with discounts running 20 percent to 30 percent off retail.

Another area of the store has 38 glass enclosures with various reptiles reptiles
