When we first discovered Birds Plus in 1991, it was a cozy See COSE.  1,100-square-foot store. Today, Birds Plus has 6,000 square feet of discounted birds - from cockatiels to hyacinth macaws - and all related bird supplies.

If your little one has been after you about getting a bird, a cockatiel cockatiel

Any of 21 species of crested parrots (family Cacatuidae), found in Australia and from New Guinea to the Solomon Islands. Most species are white with touches of red or yellow; some are black.

In addition to lots of fine-feathered friends, Birds Plus has cages in all shapes and sizes (wrought-iron cages for small birds run $59 instead of $99 retail). Grooming costs $3 for small birds and $5 for larger ones, and, depending on size, boarding runs $3 to $7 a day.

By the way, if a bird doesn't fit into your household just now, parents are always welcome to take their children to Birds Plus. Quick Frames will put your 24-by-36-inch picture in a metal frame and prepare it for hanging for $19.95 (elsewhere $39.85) - that includes a choice of more than 40 colors.
