BARCO Visualization Division Leads '95 Revenues with Advanced Projectors for Niche Markets.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1996--BARCO, one of Europe's fastest growing electronic companies, announces its best earnings ever for 1995. BARCO's Visualization Division made the largest overall contribution with sales of high-resolution projectors accounting for 45% of the company's $497.7 million in annual revenues.

This reflects a significant increase in overall projector sales of 31.7% from 1994. BARCO attributes its strong projector sales to a number of product launches in 1995 and its heavy investment in Research and Development. BARCO's Visualization Division is a combination of BARCO Projection Systems and BARCO Display Systems.

BARCO's commitment to Research and Development in 1995 resulted in the introduction of five, powerful high-resolution LCD projectors See LCD TV, data projector and LCD panel.  in 1996: BarcoData 2100 LC, BarcoData 3000 LC, BarcoGraphics 8100 LC, BarcoData and BarcoGraphics 9100 LCs. In addition, BARCO launched enhancements to several popular selling CRT projectors A CRT projector is a video projector that uses a small, high-brightness CRT (or picture tube) as the image generating element. The image is then focused and enlarged onto a screen using a lens kept in front of the CRT face. : BarcoGraphics 808 series and BarcoGraphics 1208 series. These new offerings combined with existing projectors provide even more options for high-resolution, video, VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions. , XGA (EXtended Graphics Array) A screen resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K.  and high-end graphic applications.
