BARBECUE LOVERS CHOW DOWN FOR VETS.

Byline: Bettie Rencoret Senior columnist

LANCASTER - Lancaster Veterans Home Committee members say they haven't given up hope that the state and federal governments will come up with money for building the home, and never will.

The committee will host an Aug. 12 barbecue to raise funds for amenities for the home.

``We'd like to see another big crowd out to show their support,'' said Ken Creese, the committee's chairman in charge of raising funds to spruce up spruce up

``Our last barbecue was a real success,'' said Creese. ``After all the bills were paid, we were able to add $2,700 to the home fund. We want to clear at least that much again this time if we can.''

Determined and optimistic in the face of the recent setbacks in building the home, this is a continuing committee effort to gain funds to furnish the complex with equipment not included in federal and state funding.

Current goal is at least $50,000 for such things as pool tables, televisions, vans to transport those who don't drive, games, videotapes and other equipment not covered not covered Health care adjective Referring to a procedure, test or other health service to which a policy holder or insurance beneficiary is not entitled under the terms of the policy or payment system–eg, Medicare. Construction was originally expected to begin this year on the home, planned for Avenue I and 30th Street West, but was delayed after Congress passed legislation changing the criteria for funding veterans homes.

Committee members say monetary contributions for the amenities fund can be sent to treasurer Bob Ortiz, local Los Angeles County military and veterans affairs service officer, at 335A E. Ave. K-6, Lancaster, CA 93535.
