BANYAN SYSTEMS AND ZOOMIT CORPORATION ANNOUNCE DEFENSE MESSAGING SYSTEM SOLUTION FOR BEYONDMAIL.
DMS, a key initiative for the Department of Defense, will provide its personnel a well integrated, business-quality electronic messaging service with the security requirements of data integrity, access control, authentication, non-repudiation, and confidentiality. "Banyan Systems is in an excellent position to provide our BeyondMail customers and prospects with a DMS solution," said Eugene Lee, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Messaging Solutions Business Unit, Banyan Systems. "This solution will allow our customers and prospects to use commercially available products to meet the DMS requirements for secure `writer to reader' messaging. In addition, the solution will bring Banyan's Business on Mail initiative within the REDWOOD vision to the federal marketplace."
According to Jackson Shaw, Vice President, Sales, ZOOMIT Corporation, "The DMS solution integrated with Banyan BeyondMail and Intelligent Messaging will clearly set a new standard for the interoperability of secure messaging. By making a commecial version of the DMS solution available, we will also enable Banyan's commercial sector clients to realize the same benefits. We are delighted to be working with Banyan, the enterprise messaging leaders, on this very important project."
The Banyan DMS client solution will incorporate an X.500 directory browser, P772 Message Formatter, and Message Security Protocol (P42) with support for the National Security Agency Fortezza card. The Banyan DMS server solution consists of a 1988-based X.400 Message Transfer Agent, and a 1993-based X.500 Directory System Agent, to allow Banyan VINES and ENS for Netware networks to connect directly to the DMS network.
"This strategy allows for a cost effective migration to DMS without incurring costs for retraining and software replacement," said Glenn Pulling, Vice President, Federal Systems Group, Banyan Systems. "We have been working directly with the DMS prime contractor to insure that our DMS solution is available through the DMS contract. A key element of the development partnership between Banyan and ZOOMIT is the short time-to-market for products, and much of the technology will be based on available products from Banyan and ZOOMIT."
Over the past seven years ZOOMIT has focused on providing industry standard solutions in the messaging and directory arena -- especially to large corporations that require total enterprise-wide solutions, creating a strong foundation for their advanced security efforts. ZOOMIT's "Intelligent Security Agent" and "Intelligent Directory Agent" provide integrated security, X.500 and local directory access from within Banyan BeyondMail, and is an example of the key components that will form an important part of the DMS offering. -0-
