``It's going to be a big challenge,'' Banuelos said at a campus news conference Thursday. ``But I'm excited, I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. Ron Wilford, who on Monday resigned as head football coach of Moorpark High, has signed on as an assistant offensive coach. The rest of the staff will be announced soon, Banuelos said.

Banuelos said his immediate goals won't be modest: ``We're not just talking about bringing Pierce back to respectability. We're not talking about competing for the Western State Conference championship. We want to be at the state level - our No. 1 goal is the state championship.

``You have to walk before you can run, but I am setting the standards high, not just focusing on improvement. We will go from there.''

Banuelos replaces Bill Norton, who was 21-58-1 in eight years before resigning. Norton kept the program alive in spite of catastrophic financial problems at the school and was honored as the conference's Coach of the Year this past season.

``David Banuelos was the one person who stood out to everyone (on the panel),'' athletic director Bob Lyons said. ``We're pleased and honored to have him and we look forward to football being a positive experience at Pierce College again.''
