BANKATLANTIC EXPANDS PARTNERSHIP WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY; JOINS FORT LAUDERDALE OPTIMISTS FOR FUNDRAISING HIGHWAY HOLDUP, SATURDAY, JAN. 9;

 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, Jan. 9 more than 100 volunteers from BankAtlantic and Optimist Club of Fort Lauderdale will ask Broward motorists to dig into their pockets to support Habitat for Humanity home building projects in Broward County. In partnership with BankAtlantic and other civic and corporate organizations, Habitat for Humanity of Broward expects to complete 25 new homes in 1993. Two Habitat homes located in Dania and sponsored by BankAtlantic will be dedicated later this month, and construction of two BankAtlantic-sponsored homes in Deerfield Beach is set to begin next week. BankAtlantic volunteers wearing bright blue and white T-shirts and carrying orange collection cans will fan out at 10 key intersections this Saturday to accept motorists' contributions to expand Habitat for Humanity's low-income home building activities in Broward County.
 The volunteer effort is part of BankAtlantic's drive to encourage individuals and business to contribute $1 million to Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing for low income families in South Florida. As part of its commitment, BankAtlantic pledged $250,000 to fund zero-interest mortgages for Habitat for Humanity homeowners. At the same time, BankAtlantic founded South Florida Alliance for Humanity -- an independent, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage broad community support for Habitat for Humanity. The aim of these programs is to provide affordable new homes for deserving low-income families in South Florida who might otherwise not be able to purchase homes of their own. Habitat for Humanity homes are sold at cost to deserving families without regard to their race or religion.
 Volunteer fund raisers from BankAtlantic and Optimist Club of Fort Lauderdale will be stationed at the following intersections from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9:
 -- University Boulevard and McNab Road, Tamarac
 -- Broward Boulevard and US 1/Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale
