BANKAMERICA PURCHASES 1523 INTERBOLD i SERIES ATMS

BANKAMERICA PURCHASES 1523 INTERBOLD i SERIES ATMS
NORTH CANTON, Ohio, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- BankAmerica

(NYSE: BAC), the second largest bank in the United States, has purchased 1523 InterBold(TM) i Series(TM) ATMs in a multi-million- dollar transaction with Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD). InterBold is the joint venture between Diebold and IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM).
BankAmerica is expanding its ATM network and replacing older machines at branches acquired through BankAmerica's recent merger with Security Pacific Corporation (NYSE: SPC). Six hundred units were purchased in late 1991 and the remaining 923 in the second quarter of 1992.
"The new ATMs will enable us to expand our services during and after our consolidation process," said Debby McWhinney, senior vice president, VERSATEL Businesses, BankAmerica. "We were very pleased with Diebold's responsiveness in assisting us with this major expansion of our ATM network."
A portion of the 1523 ATMs are through-the-wall walk-up units, including some with InterBold's enhanced access fascia, which allows comfortable access for all customers, including individuals with disabilities. The remaining units include a mix of through-the-wall drive-up machines and InterBold's new 1064i cash dispenser, first displayed in December at the Retail Delivery Systems Conference (ATM- 14). The order also includes InterBold controllers to support the new machines.
One of the key issues in BankAmerica's decision was the i Series' modular, upgradeable design, which gives financial institutions the flexibility to meet changing customer needs, as well as protect their hardware investments. The i Series also offers the highest reliability in the industry, ensuring greater customer satisfaction and lower life-cycle costs.
InterBold is committed to responding to its customers' needs and providing intelligent business solutions, according to Robert P. Barone, president and chief operating officer at InterBold's parent company, Diebold. "We have forged a strong partnership with BankAmerica and were able to quickly respond to their needs," he said. "As this very significant merger progresses, we will continue to provide BankAmerica with the solutions needed to ensure its future success."
BankAmerica has the largest proprietary network of ATMs in the United States with more than 4,500 machines. With headquarters in San Francisco, BankAmerica operates branches throughout the Western United States.
Headquartered in North Canton, Ohio, InterBold develops and markets ATMs and advanced self-service terminals and systems for the current and future needs of the financial services industry.
Diebold, Incorporated is a world leader in the automation of self- service transactions, security products, software and service for these systems. Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Diebold maintains offices worldwide.
