BAND TAKES FLIGHT EDWARDS' GROUP OPENS FOR EVERCLEAR.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - A band made up of four airmen got to open for the alternative rock group Everclear at the Edwards Fall Fest.

 Propulsion Propulsion

 Flight, earned the spot by winning a Battle of the Bands competition at the base.

``We originally formed to play in a basewide talent show but (the talent show) ended up being canceled,'' said guitarist Bryan Campbell Bryan Campbell (born March 27, 1944 in Sudbury, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey forward who played 260 games in the National Hockey League and 433 games in the World Hockey Association. . ``After that fell through, the Services Division held a Battle of the Bands competition so we got together once again, won it and now we're here.''

Everclear's performance at Edwards kicked off its 2005 worldwide tour where the group will be playing on military installations in Japan, South Korea, Guam and Hawaii.

Plantation 3810 band members said they made sure practice became part of their daily routine once they found out about the opportunity.

``We started practicing in February, and despite the long hours on top of work, just being able to play music with friends, in the end, it was all worth it,'' said Stacy Smith Stacy Smith is a news anchor at CBS owned and operated KDKA-TV, the market leader in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also a contributor to OnQ, the Emmy-winning television news magazine program that airs on WQED-TV. , Plantation 3810 vocalist.

``It really was a great honor to get to represent our squadron, Edwards, and play with these guys,'' said Joe Crum, Plantation 3810 bassist.

After Everclear's performance, Plantation 3810 members met with Everclear band members to ask for advice.

``The only advice I can give these guys, from a creative point of view, is that you have to reinvent re·in·vent

1. To make over completely: "She reinvented Indian cooking to fit a Western kitchen and a Western larder" 
 yourself every day and get to a place where you love what you're doing and other people love what you're doing,'' said Art Alexakis, Everclear lead singer. ``To get anything out of life you have to want it bad, really bad, and it doesn't mean you have to do bad things to achieve it, but you have to work really hard.''
