BANANA BUST.


Chiquita Brands International, the world's largest banana company, is pegging its survival on CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  James B. Riley.

The 100-year-old company recently hired the steel industry veteran to restructure the company's more than US$800 million debt. The move comes in the wake of Chiquita's lawsuit against the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it was founded in 1967 when the three treaty organizations comprising what was then the European Community ; the banana company seeks $519 million in damages for losses it claims it suffered because of European restrictions on banana imports.
