About 45,000 ballots were mailed to residents within the Conejo Recreation and Park District, asking whether they were willing to pay $25 a year to maintain and improve parks and open space.

If the assessment passes, it would generate $1.1 million a year for the Conejo Recreation and Park District. Each year the park district would hold a hearing to determine whether the tax should be renewed or modified and capped at 3 percent a year.
