BALLET BOOST GRANTS TO AID COMPANY'S PROGRAMS.

The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Grants of $2,000 each were received from the Arts Commission and Mervyn's, with a $3,500 grant from Target.

These contributions will support the company's ninth annual ``Nutcracker'' ballet production and school outreach program, as well as next year's production of ``A Midsummer Night's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare written sometime in the 1590s. It portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta, and ,'' scheduled for June.

``The funds will allow us to expand our classical ballet programming and arts education programs to reach more children and families in Santa Clarita,'' said Corinne Glover, the company's executive director. ``These are very difficult financial times for the arts and nonprofit groups. Businesses like Mervyn's and Target stores should be saluted for their recognition of the importance of the arts in community life.''

``The Arts Commission has also provided steady support to our organization, which is a source of pride as their grants represent peer-reviewed recognition of the quality and growth of our programming.''

The grants will allow the ballet company to continue its educational partnership with the Newhall School District The Newhall School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Valencia and Newhall communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California, as well as the Stevenson Ranch community in unincorporated Los Angeles County. . To accommodate the growing number of schools and children, this year the company plans to present two shows instead of one to district fourth-graders at the Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:
  • Hart High School — Newhall, California
  • Hart High School — Hart, Michigan
  • Hart County High School — Munfordville, Kentucky
  • Hart County High School — Hartwell, Georgia
 Auditorium during the first week of December.
