Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker, Jr. (born June 15 1949 in Riverside, California) is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball and the current manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
about their vacant manager's position, Baker said there is no need.

``Don't bother calling, I have no interest in managing the Dodgers,'' Baker told the San Francisco Chronicle The San Francisco Chronicle was founded in 1865 as The Daily Dramatic Chronicle by teenage brothers Charles de Young and Michael H. de Young.[2] The paper grew along with San Francisco to become the largest circulation newspaper on the West Coast of the  on Tuesday.

It was unlikely the Giants were going to grant permission even if Baker hadn't responded to reports of the Dodgers' interest.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean Brian Sabean is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the San Francisco Giants, a Major League Baseball franchise. He has held the job since 1997, when he replaced former General Manager Bob Quinn.  said Tuesday at the club's organizational meetings. ``(Baker) is under contract, that's all I can say,'' alluding to the two-year extension that kicks in this season.

Baker led the Giants to a wild-card playoff game Noun 1. playoff game - one game in the series of games constituting a playoff

Because he is under contract, the Dodgers have to receive permission to negotiate.

Meanwhile, Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone
:Kevin Malone is also the name of a former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager.

Kevin Malone is a fictional character from the US television series, The Office. He is played by Brian Baumgartner.
has not set up an interview with Davey Johnson, who also is being considered for the manager's job in Detroit.

After rushing to hire Felipe Alou, who stayed with Montreal, Malone said he will be more patient in the next round of discussions. He hopes to have a manager in place by his own organizational meetings, Oct. 28-Nov. 1 in Vero Beach, Fla.

Since the Tigers' payroll is not expected to climb above $30 million next season, Johnson clearly is hoping the Dodgers act soon. They are expected to have a $75 million payroll in 1999.
