BAILEY BACK AT AVC.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Daily News Staff Writer

Lafayette Bailey runs for a school-record 305 yards in his 1997 debut, and Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. Huh?

``He just ran for his average,'' Carder said.

Carder isn't joking. As a freshman last year, Bailey averaged a mere 10 carries per game but still rushed for 849 yards. On Saturday night at Southwestern, Bailey made up for his absence over the first two games by running 35 times, averaging 8.7 yards for each of his carries.

In addition to shattering Tony Reed's 23-year-old record of 291 yards, Bailey became the Foothill Conference's leading rusher.

The Marauders gladly accepted Bailey back, combining his three touchdowns with some big defense plays to win their conference opener 35-31. AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. See H.264.

because I could see what I could have done to help,'' said Bailey, who missed a practice that kept him out of the second game. ``I know now to think twice before I do anything that might make me miss a game.''

Bailey resurrected what had been a misfiring AVC running game that had produced 90 yards the first two games.

``When you hand him the ball he has the opportunity to go all the way every time,'' Carder said. ``The defense knows this, and that opens up the rest of the offense.''

With last Saturday's game on the line, the Marauders turned not to Bailey but sophomore fullback Kenyatta Dawson, a 6-foot, 235-pound bowling ball known around Marauder MARAUDER. ``(The offense) is back to full strength,'' Bailey said, referring to a solid performance by quarterback Michael Gleich in his first start of the season and an offensive line that opened holes for Bailey and Dawson.

``Guys don't run for 300 yards without other people doing their jobs,'' Carder said.

Defensive end Vic McDonnell did his part, collecting the fourth-quarter sack that halted Southwestern's final drive and returning a fumble 74 yards for a second-quarter touchdown.

``He came up with a couple of huge defensive plays,'' Carder said of McDonnell, also pointing out that freshman Jesse Clark tipped the ball in the air into the arms of McDonnell.
