BAGPIPES, SHEEPHERDING: IT'S TIME FOR THE IRISH FAIR.

Visitors can listen to bagpipe bagpipe, musical instrument whose ancient origin was probably in Mesopotamia from which it was carried east and west by Celtic migrations. It was used in ancient Greece and Rome and has been long known in India.  bands, watch sheepherders and feast on Irish foods at the 26th annual Irish Fair and Music Festival today and Sunday at Woodley Park Woodley Park refers to the following:
  • Woodley Park, D.C., a neighborhood in Washington
  • Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan, a Metro station

At a new location this year, the annual Father's Day weekend event expects to draw more 40,000 visitors to see 2,000 costumed performers in a celebration of Irish culture.

Headlining the Shamrock Bowl The Shamrock Bowl is the championship game of the IAFL. Bagpipe bands lead the Grand Parade of the Irish each day at 11:30 a.m., and sheep herding happens on the hour, every other hour, starting at 11 a.m. There will also be a recreation of an Irish village and booths exhibiting such arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts.  as wool sweaters, linens, pottery and paintings.
