Los Angeles International Airport (IATA: LAX, ICAO: KLAX, FAA LID: LAX
 shut down two terminals for an hour Sunday, forcing an evacuation and delaying several flights, airport officials said.

However, police determined the gym bag posed no danger and began to clear the scene around 6:45 p.m., said Officer Marlo Lopez-Delharo, a police spokeswoman.

Before alerting police, airport officials called a pager number listed on a name tag attached to the gym bag, said LAX spokesman Harold Johnson. When no one responded to the page, he said, airport authorities erred on the side of caution.

``In the past we would have waited to call the police for something like this,'' Johnson said. ``Now we call them right away.''

While several flights were delayed during the evacuation, airline officials reported no delays later in the evening.
