He graduated from the University of Arizona's Racetrack Management Program with a Bachelor of Science degree.  and Bobby Frankel are confident they can cash in at the world's richest horse race.

Baffert, who won the $6 million Dubai World Cup The Dubai World Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1996 at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The race is operated through the Emirates Horse Racing Authority (EHRA) whose Chairman is Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan,  in 1998 with Silver Charm, is running Captain Steve in the 1 1/4-mile race at Nad Al Sheba on Saturday night. Frankel saddles Aptitude, who finished second in the 2000 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.

On Monday night, Baffert watched the 4-year-old son of Fly So Free breeze through his 6-furlong workout in 1:10.40. Baffert said he's optimistic about a second win at the World Cup.

``He is known to jump at shadows,'' Baffert said of Captain Steve. ``During the Hollywood Futurity in December 1999, he shut down completely. I don't usually run my horses at night, but I wanted to make sure he can run under the lights.

``He handled the lights well and the way he ran, I can say that he enjoyed himself.''

Baffert used a golf analogy, noting that Tiger Woods hit a ball in the water on the 18th hole two weeks ago, costing him the Dubai Desert Classic The Dubai Desert Classic is an annual professional golf tournament which will be contested in 2008 from January 28 - February 3rd. It takes place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and is part of the European Tour schedule. .

``It will be a very interesting race, that's for sure,'' Baffert said. ``I just hope I don't end up like Tiger Woods and put it in the water.''

Captain Steve, who won the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream on Feb. 3, is the early favorite in the race with local hope Best of the Bests expected to do well on his home track. Captain Steve is consistent - he has been in the money in 15 of his 18 stakes with seven victories, two seconds and six thirds.

Frankel won more than $10 million in purses last year, comparable to Baffert and D. Wayne Lukas Darrell Wayne Lukas (born September 2, 1935 in Antigo, Wisconsin) is a former educator who became one of the most successful horse trainers in American Thoroughbred horse racing history and a U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee. . Frankel-trained Public Purse finished third to Dubai Millennium in the 2000 Dubai World Cup.
