BAE Systems Expands Facility, Adds New Jobs to Build Armor for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles.


ANNISTON, Ala. -- BAE Systems is expanding its Anniston facility and anticipates hiring additional employees to support a $7.6 million contract which provides 20,000 light weight expanded armor panels for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP MRAP Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (military vehicle)

"We are adding 21,875 square feet of manufacturing space and will create approximately 25 new jobs to meet future demands for this product," said Robert Houston, vice president and Anniston site manager for BAE Systems. "Most importantly, these investments support the production of expanded armor, which provides our men and women in uniform with additional protection against a variety of threats."

This light weight expanded armor was developed by BAE Systems and will be used on MRAP vehicles already in service. The company delivered the first 2,000 panels to the U.S. Army on Jan. 22.

In addition to the armor panels, BAE Systems also manufactures three of the five types of MRAP variants: the Caiman caiman: see alligator.
