BAE SYSTEMS To Provide Transparent Armored Gun Shields to U.S. Marine Corps.


SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- BAE Systems will provide more than 1,000 Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shields (MCTAGS MCTAGS Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shield (ballistic glass panels on gun turrets) ) kits and spares to support U.S. Marine Corps vehicles under a contact modification worth up to $39.9 million from the U.S. Marine Corps System Command.

The modification calls for the delivery of the kits for installation on Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) or 7-Ton, is a six-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy. It is designed to replace the old M900 series of tactical trucks, and was first fielded in 1998, after the  (MTVR MTVR Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement ) units, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) and Logistics Vehicle Systems (LVSs) starting in October and continuing through February 2006. The award is funded initially at $19.1 million.

BAE Systems Transparent Armor Gun Shields (TAGS) units are configurable for a wide range of vehicles, including Bradley Armored Commander's Shield, M1 Abrams, M113, HMMWV HMMWV High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV is a trademark of AM General LLC; aka HUMVEE, also a trademark of AM General LLC)  and Transparent Armor for the Stryker Common Ballistic Shield, and are particularly effective in close-combat urban environments.
