BAE SYSTEMS Names Mike Heffron President of Electronics and Integrated Solutions Operating Group.


NASHUA, N.H. -- BAE Systems BAE Systems

British manufacturer of aircraft, missiles, avionics, naval vessels, and other aerospace and defense products. BAE Systems was formed (1999) from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems.
 has named Michael A. Heffron as president of the company's Electronics & Integrated Solutions (E&IS) operating group, effective Jan. 1, 2007. Heffron succeeds Walt Havenstein Walter P. "Walt" Havenstein is an American businessman, engineer and former United States Marine. Since 2007-01-02 he has been president & CEO of BAE Systems Inc., the US subsidiary of BAE Systems plc and a board member of BAE Systems plc. , who will become president and chief executive officer of BAE Systems Inc.

In announcing the appointment, Havenstein said, "I'm extremely pleased to announce Mike's selection as the next president of E&IS. He will play a critical role in leading and developing BAE Systems' major defense electronics enterprise. He will ensure the group's future success, continued high performance for our customers, and sustained business growth."

E&IS consists of five major lines of business: Electronic Warfare Noun 1. electronic warfare - military action involving the use of electromagnetic energy to determine or exploit or reduce or prevent hostile use of the electromagnetic spectrum

; National Security Solutions; Sensor Systems; Network Enabled Solutions; and Platform Solutions. It employs more than 18,000 people at 50 sites in the U.S. and UK.

Heffron currently serves as president of the company's Platform Solutions unit, a position he has held since April 2006. Prior to that, he was president of the Information Warfare Also called "cyberterrorism," it refers to creating havoc by disrupting the computers that manage stock exchanges, power grids, air traffic control and telecommunications. While the term often deals with attacks against a nation, it may also refer to attacks on organizations and the  business and had previously served as vice president of engineering for BAE Systems' Information and Electronic Warfare Systems unit.

Heffron's career in defense and industry spans nearly 30 years beginning in 1978 as an engineer for the U.S. Air Force. He has also held engineering and management positions with Lockheed Martin For the former company, see .

Heffron holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Syracuse University.
