BAE SYSTEMS & CSC TO EXPAND STRATEGIC IT PARTNERSHIP.Computer Sciences Corp. (London: BA) announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment. to expand their strategic information technology (IT) partnership. Under the memorandum, CSC and BAE Systems will negotiate an enlarged agreement under which CSC will also manage the majority of IT operations in the UK and North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. of the former Marconi Electronic Systems Marconi Electronic Systems (MES), or GEC-Marconi as it was until 1998, was the defence arm of The General Electric Company (GEC). It was demerged from GEC and acquired by British Aerospace (BAe) on November 30 1999 to form BAE Systems. GEC then renamed itself Marconi plc. , which merged with British Aerospace last year to form BAE Systems. Upon signing of a final agreement, CSC will manage IT operations on a transatlantic basis, including mainframe and midrange computers, servers and desktops as well as help-desk, applications and Internet services. These operations currently employ about 1,000 IT professionals in the UK and across North America. The expansion builds upon an established and highly successful 10-year outsourcing agreement signed in 1994 between CSC and British Aerospace. Stephen Henwood, director responsible for IT at BAE Systems, said, "BAE Systems is the global systems, defense and aerospace company. IT is a critical enabling tool for the integration of BAE Systems, and extending our partnership with CSC offers improved access to the resources of a global IT company and means that a larger part of our business will now benefit from the partnership." |
