BAD START IS COSTLY CARRASCO STRUGGLES FOR ANGELS, WHO LOSE TO DETROIT DETROIT 5, ANGELS 2.Byline: BEN VILLA Staff Writer If the ailing Bartolo Colon can't make his next scheduled start May1, the Angels are probably going to have to find somebody else to take his turn because it's becoming evident, Hector Carrasco isn't the answer. The right-hander, who took over when Colon went on the disabled list April 16 with inflammation in his right shoulder, struggled in his second straight start on Tuesday night. He allowed five runs and seven hits in five innings in a 5-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers The Detroit Tigers are a professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The loss also snapped the Angels season-high three-game winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins streak, run - an unbroken series of events; "had a streak of bad luck"; "Nicklaus had a run of birdies" . "I didn't think Hector pitched as bad as the line score would indicate," Angels manager Mike Scioscia "We have a day off coming up and we'll see where our team needs are over the weekend." Carrasco received a no-decision in his last start April 20 against the Minnesota Twins The Minnesota Twins are a professional baseball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Humphrey Metrodome. but he was far from impressive, allowing three runs in three innings. And on Tuesday night, he wasn't much better. After not allowing a run through the first two innings, Carrasco ran into trouble in the third. He walked Craig Monroe Craig Keystone Monroe aka C-Mo (born February 27, 1977, in Texarkana, Texas) is a left fielder in Major League Baseball who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs. Carrasco then struck out Curtis Granderson Curtis Granderson (born March 16, 1981, in Blue Island, Illinois) is a center fielder in Major League Baseball who currently plays for the Detroit Tigers. Granderson grew up in Lynwood, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago and began his baseball career in the town's Little League. but Placido Placido may refer to any of the following: People Placido is a traditional Spaniard clan name (see Clan Placido) and it is now a common given name and a less common surname. The Tigers extended their lead one inning later when Magglio Ordonez hit his fourth home run of the season, sending a 2-2 pitch over the left-center field wall. In the top of the sixth, the Tigers chased Carrasco when Ivan Rodriguez and Ordonez led off with singles. Scioscia went to the bullpen, bringing in Kevin Gregg Kevin Marschall Gregg (born in Corvallis, Oregon on June 20, 1978) is a Closing pitcher with the Florida Marlins. In a three-year career, Infante is a . to ground into a double play, scoring Ordonez and then retired Monroe to get out of the inning without any more damage done. That proved to be more than enough for Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman, who pitched six innings and struck out six to pick up his second win of the season. Bonderman had been struggling to start the season, entering Tuesday night's game with a 5.55 ERA, but he cruised through the first five innings, allowing just one hit before the Angels managed to touch him for two runs in the sixth. Chone Figgins singled to tart the inning and Orlando Cabrera drove him in on a double to left-center. Cabrera then stole third base, but Vladimir Guerrero struck out. Cabrera did score when Garret Anderson scored him on a groundout to second base. Tigers manager Jim Leyland took Bonderman out after the inning and the Tigers bullpen did the rest. Jamie Walker pitched the seventh, Joel Zumaya came on in the eighth and Todd Jones threw a scoreless ninth to record the save. The Angels managed only three hits while leaving three men on base. "Bonderman has a great arm and we didn't get many good lucks against him," Scioscia said. "He's one of those bright young arms they have over there and it seems like he's always tough on us." Gregg could be in line to start Monday's game against the A's. It was his second straight solid outing out of the bullpen, going three innings and only allowing two hits. The Angels could go in another direction like calling up former Long Beach State star Jered Weaver from Triple A. Ironically enough, Weaver, who started for Salt Lake on Monday, would be on schedule to start early next week if he was called up. Weaver is 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA this season with the Bees. "I prefer starting, but at the same time, I'm also learning my role in the bullpen," Gregg said. "I think I've had success in the past starting but it's Mike's decision who starts what game." ben.villa@presstelegram.com (562) 499-1338 CAPTION(S): photo, box Photo: Detroit center fielder Curtis Granderson catches a flyball hit by Angels first baseman Casey Kotchman.
