William Hambly Stoneman III (born April 7, 1944, in Oak Park, Illinois) is a consultant for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. From 1999 to October 15, 2007, he served as the general manager of the Angels.
is hopeful Escobar will return from the DL when eligible, but he acknowledged the injury could be a longer-term situation.

Escobar, who began the year on the DL with an elbow sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Sprains occur most commonly at the ankle, knee, or wrist joints, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty in moving the involved joint. , felt the spur rubbing against his elbow during his five-inning, four-run outing Wednesday against Cleveland. X-rays confirmed the presence of the spur.

Stoneman said in the best-case scenario, letting the inflammation subside will enable Escobar, 1-2 with a 3.91 ERA in four starts, to return May 27. But Escobar required surgery to remove bone chips in 1997, forcing him to sit out six weeks. Stoneman said for now, that's not an option.

``Right now, we're thinking after the 15-day period he'll be ready to go,'' Stoneman said. ``It may go longer than that. We'll wait until the doctors tell us that. (Surgery) is nothing we're contemplating right now.''

To provide depth with center fielder Steve Finley Steven Allen Finley (born March 12 1965, in Union City, Tennessee) is a Major League Baseball center fielder who bats and throws left-handed. He currently is a free agent, and has been working out on a regular basis since his release, hopeful a call will come from a team looking  experiencing tightness in his left groin, the Angels recalled outfielder Chris Prieto, a 32-year-old career minor leaguer Noun 1. minor leaguer - a player on a minor-league baseball team

, from Triple-A Salt Lake. Finley could be reduced to DH duties for the next few days.

Assuming Finley is OK, Prieto likely won't last past Tuesday, when Escobar's spot in the rotation comes up and the Angels need an 11th pitcher. Reliever Kevin Gregg or Triple-A pitchers Chris Bootcheck or Dustin Moseley could make the start. Stoneman acknowledged that top prospect Ervin Santana, 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA at Double-A Arkansas, could figure in the mix.

``All those guys performing well in the upper minor leagues are possibilities,'' he said.

Prieto has never appeared in the major leagues in a 13-year career spent with five major-league organizations, an independent team and a team in Mexico.
