County Sheriff Lee Baca Leroy David Baca (b. May 27 1942, East Los Angeles, California) is the Sheriff of Los Angeles County, California. After graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School (Los Angeles) in 1960, Baca worked his way through East Los Angeles College before starting with the L.A. backed out of the first debate, set for Tuesday, against his two challengers in the March 5 election, officials said Thursday. The Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, which organized the event, said Baca had committed to attend the forum with challengers Sgt. John Stites and Sgt. Patrick Gomez but changed his mind and withdrew. ``They said he was attending a fund-raiser,'' said Roger Mayberry, president of the 6,700-member union of Sheriff's Department, District Attorney's CERTIFICATE, ATTORNEY'S, Practice, English law. III., c. 90, s. 26, 28, attorneys are required to deliver to the commissioners of stamp duties, a paper or note in writing, containing the name and usual place of residence of such person, and thereupon, on paying certain Office and Office of Public Safety members. ``We've always had a good working relationship with the sheriff. We'd like that to continue. It's unfortunate he has backed out of this forum.'' Baca's campaign consultant said the sheriff initially agreed to participate in the event at East Los Angeles College ELAC is a two year college, offering associate degree programs in over 25 fields as well as both academic transfer courses which prepare students for admission to the University of California and California State University system and occupational programs which prepare students for because he thought the organization was conducting endorsement interviews, not a debate. ``After that point, we found out it was going to be turned into a public debate and that just didn't seem to us to be an appropriate way to proceed with an interview process and the sheriff declined to participate,'' said consultant Parke Skelton. Baca's challengers used the situation to launch criticism of the sheriff. Stites said Baca doesn't want to attend because of the question-and-answer format. ``He thought it was going to be a well-scripted event where he could come and basically support his own personal agenda and what he has accomplished so far, which is little or nothing,'' Stites said. Gomez said members of the department had a lot of questions they'd like to ask Baca. ``They would like to ask him why we have a deficit of over $50 million and why he has put the office of sheriff up for sale,'' said Gomez, alluding to questions about campaign contributions Baca received from the father of a San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills. drug dealer whose prison sentence was commuted and a Temple City man whose traffic ticket was voided void·ed adj.
