Owen, 37, was given an unlimited prison term for his role in the horrific death of 17-month-old Peter Connelly. But the Court of Appeal ruled that the sentence was "a step too far" - because there was no evidence Owen would pose a serious threat to others in future. The judges replaced the indefinite term A prison sentence for a specifically designated length of time up to a certain prescribed maximum, such as one to ten years or twenty-five years to life. with a six-year sentence. And his QC, Tim Roberts, told the appeal court in London that his client's indefinite sentence was "wrong in principle" because there was no evidence he posed a significant risk to the public.
