BABY DROWNS WHILE MOM ANSWERS RINGING PHONE.

A 6-month-old girl drowned after her 17-year-old mother left her unattended in a bathtub, police reported Tuesday.

The baby's mother, who was not identified because of her age, has not been arrested. Detectives will wait for the results of an autopsy.

``We're just waiting for the cause of death,'' Leberknight said. ``We want to finish our investigation, and if we feel it is necessary to present (the case) to the District Attorney's Office, we will.''

The mother was about to give the baby a bath at the family home in the 8200 block of Brimfield Avenue when the phone rang and she left to answer it.

The baby had been set in the bathtub in ``some sort of chair or boosting device,'' Leberknight said.

After about 10 minutes, the mother returned and found the baby unconscious unconscious, in psychology, that aspect of mental life that is separate from immediate consciousness and is not subject to recall at will. Sigmund Freud regarded the unconscious as a submerged but vast portion of the mind.  and not breathing.
