BABY DIES IN CARAVAN PARK BLAZE TRAGEDY.

A BABY girl was killed when fire tore through her family's caravan yesterday.

The 10-month-old tot died despite her father's frantic attempts to save her from their blazing home.

Four adults and three other children who were in the caravan at the time suffered the effects of breathing smoke.

Wemyss Bay ("Wemyss" pronounced weemz /'wi:mz/) is a village on the west Coast of the Firth of Clyde in the district of Inverclyde, Scotland.

Last night, a source at the site said: 'The baby's dad fought like mad to save the child. He was in the caravan at the time and he was desperate to get his kids out.

'Other members of staff rushed to help him but the blaze was very fierce and it happened so quickly.

'They could not save the baby, although they tried very hard. It looks like it was just a tragic accident.' The dad, his wife and their four children had been at Wemyss Bay since the start of last summer season. He was working in the Renfrewshire camp's entertainment centre.

Their three other children - five-year-old and 10-year-old girls and a boy aged two - and a 31-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man escaped uninjured.

A police spokesman said: 'Police and fire investigation officers are continuing inquiries to establish the cause of the fire, although there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.'

A spokesman for the caravan park said: 'I can confirm there was a fire at our caravan site which resulted in a fatality.

'The casualty's identity won't be released until all relatives are informed. Our thoughts are with the family. The park management are working with the fire brigade and police to discover the cause of the blaze.'

Meanwhile, police were yesterday treating a blaze which killed a pensioner PENSIONER. One who is supported by an allowance at the will of another. It is more usually applied to him who receives an annuity or pension from the government.  and two of his sons as suspicious.

Donald Morrison, 83, and his sons Donald, 56, and Bobby, 50, died in an inferno at their home in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, at the weekend.

Police have interviewed neighbours who heard a loud bang before fire took hold.

Stunned residents left floral tributes in the front garden as police and specialist fire investigators made a detailed examination of the tragedy house.
