B.R. Fries & Associates has been retained by Century 21 to renovate 10,000 SF of retail space adjacent to its flagship store Downtown.

The move into space at 10 Cortlandt St. brings the famous discount retailer back to the location of its original store that opened in 1961.

According to Barry Fries, president of B. R. Fries, the new space will contain two 5,000-SF selling floors for the chain's men's and children's shoes and sneakers department. The project is slated for completion in early November.

"It was a natural for us to have Fries do the renovation," said Raymond Gindi, chief operating officer of Century 21. "They recently completed the first phase of a major expansion and renovation of our store in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, with the addition of a 20,000-SF second floor scheduled for completion in April. And Fries was the lead contractor for the $10 million cleanup and renovation of our downtown store after the World Trade Center attack. They know how we operate and they understand the things that are unique to a retail construction job."

Gindi said Century 21 occupied the space at 10 Cortlandt St., which it owns, until 1990, when it moved to its current space at 26 Church St. and 22 Cortlandt St. Until recently, remainders retailer Odd Job occupied the space.
