Significant advances in image quality are supplemented by dedicated probes for vascular scanning and breast and musculoskeletal scanning

The new scanners and transducers were previewed at the American College of Surgeons Annual Clinical Congress in San Francisco October 6-10, where they were very well received.

The Hawk 2102 EXL color scanner is now the company's top-of-the-line diagnostic ultrasound scanner. Next in line, with many of the same features, is the black-and-white Falcon 2101 EXL. Both new models incorporate a number of technological advances that significantly improve image quality and user-friendliness.

Technical advances provide even better imaging

The new Hawk 2102 EXL and Falcon 2101 EXL share the benefits of B-K Medical's recent advances in image focusing technique, which create optimal focusing within a wider range of tissue depths without sacrificing frame rate. Both image uniformity and detail resolution are thus greatly improved.

Another important advantage is the 3-D option, which has been made extremely compact and is now fully integrated into the scanners. Combined with B-K Medical's Type 1850 true 360-degree transducer and the company's colorectal pullback mover, the Hawk 2102 EXL and Falcon 2101 EXL provide the best endocavity examination systems available.

Optimized technology for vascular scanning

One of the areas addressed by the new Hawk 2102 EXL is vascular scanning, where the system's significant Doppler improvements are supplemented by a new, dedicated transducer, the Type 8812, that combines deep Doppler sensitivity with excellent near field performance. The Hawk 2102 EXL maintains a high Doppler signal-to-noise ratio throughout all tissue depths and imaging modes, including duplex and triplex, giving an extremely high and uniform sensitivity at all depths. The Type 8812 transducer offers a large Doppler steering angle, as well as good ergonomics and a handy size for vascular applications, including deep veins and arteries as well as vessels closer to the skin.

New transducer excels at breast and musculoskeletal scanning

B-K Medical's portable ultrasound scanner, the Merlin 1101, has also been given some exciting improvements. The new Type 8570 high-resolution small parts transducer greatly enhances the Merlin's applicability for specialties like breast scanning and all types of musculoskeletal examinations. With its frequency range of 6-12 MHz, the Type 8570 is the highest-frequency transducer available on the portable ultrasound market. It combines outstanding image quality in the near field with excellent penetration for deeper views, making it extremely interesting for the growing ultrasound areas of breast scanning, sports medicine, orthopedics, podiatry and rheumatology(1). The easy to mount, dedicated puncture guide makes biopsies easy to execute on the spot. The Merlin has also been provided with an attractive new ergonomically designed transport trolley that includes a printer shelf and a basket for accessories, making the scanner even more mobile and handy than ever.
